PIPE

Rooted in the everyday culture of Singapore’s communal spaces, the Pipe Table draws inspiration from the understated beauty of utilitarian furniture. Growing up in HDB estates, we were constantly surrounded by the humble plywood table with folding steel legs—a near-anonymous object that played a vital role in marking life’s milestones: wedding banquets, housewarming buffets, religious festivals, and funeral wakes. This table, though uncelebrated, became a quiet symbol of togetherness, practicality, and shared space.

The Pipe Table reinterprets this memory as a modular furniture system designed for both universal use and local adaptation. Built around a core structure of T-shaped aluminium profiles and circular rods, the system anchors a wide variety of tabletop expressions to accommodate multiple functions and spatial contexts. Clean lines and minimal detailing allow it to blend seamlessly into public or private environments—while screw-fastened joints add a subtle, ornamental touch that reflects precision and craft.

Consciously designed to be simple, durable, and flexible, the Pipe Table comprises only three primary components, enabling it to be flat-packed for efficient shipping and self-collection. This design logic not only reduces material waste and transportation impact, but also supports commercial scalability, making the system viable for both local production and global distribution.

Manufactured in aluminium—a material known for its infinite recyclability—the Pipe Table supports sustainable lifecycle thinking. Its modular frame allows for interchangeable tops in various shapes, heights, and materials, offering personalization and longevity across evolving needs and lifestyles. The system can flexibly transform into a dining table, work desk, cafe bar, or communal bench, accommodating wheelchair access and other inclusive configurations.

More than a piece of furniture, the Pipe Table is a platform for collaboration. Its adaptable design invites partnerships with material specialists, surface manufacturers, and fabrication engineers—extending creative possibilities while streamlining production processes. It also encourages co-creation and cultural relevance through its capacity to host locally inspired surface treatments, finishes, and craft techniques.

By designing less to enable more, the Pipe Table aspires to become a tool for social connection, material circularity, and distributed innovation—bridging everyday use with thoughtful, systemic design.
