OBJET

Objet explores how basic two-dimensional shapes can be systematically translated into three-dimensional structures through joinery and algorithmic patterning. Starting from a flat plane, the project investigates how modular surfaces could be crafted into robust spatial forms, with a view toward potential collaborations with surface material companies for large-format installations.

The first iteration features three spherical constructions derived from simple 2D geometries—triangle, circle, and square. Through hands-on crafting, the resulting structures revealed an unexpected strength and rigidity, echoing the structural qualities of a buckyball.

In 2020, Objet was presented at Designart Tokyo as part of the exhibition theme 'Emotions', where a variation made from laser-cut dichroic acrylic panels was showcased. This material choice allowed us to explore the shifting interplay of light, colour, and form—qualities that have long fascinated our practice. Drawing inspiration from Karl Gerstner’s idea that “designing programmes means a method and an approach,” Objet reflects on how systematic assembly, modularity, and material exploration can open new perspectives for accessible, adaptive forms of making.
